Baltika Kooler

Kooler is not a wine cooler, but a light-bodied beer inspired by Pilz-style beers. The Kooler name is a bit tounge-in-cheek in Russian -- Kooler means "refrigerator"!

We're waiting patiently for our Lobster Lover beer to arrive from Lithuania. Its apparently still in a cargo container waiting final clearance by US Customs.

Zyr real Russian Vodka in stock -- a new kid on the block as far as vodka is concerned, but even the knowledgeable folks over at Liquor Snob said its one of the best Russian Vodka's they've tasted. Check out their review of Zyr here.

Absinthe -- we stock at least three brands of legal Absinthe. This is difficult to obtain in any quantities so, don't be too upset if we run out (again).

Celebrate the End of Meteorological Winter with some music!

Ah, the end of winter -- at last! With the rather abrupt end to summer and no fall or Indian summer to speak of, winter 2008 came in early and stayed. I'm tired of the grey clouds, freezing cold, and looking forward to getting outside as much as possible!

Enough of that banter -- now, on to IBIMW! This Saturday, February 28th: Chuck Silsby (The Way) and his entourage -- several acoustic sets of rock, hard rock, early blues and bluegrass for all to enjoy.

Baltika Cooler

Baltika Cooler ("балтика кулер") isn't a "cooler" (or wine cooler) at all. It is a crisp yellow lager at 4.5% alcohol. Best description I could give is Corona-lie without the soapy twang, and more body. It has a hint of sweetness and goes down almost too easily. Check out the video here on the youtube.

Splitrock Beer Festival

The Split Rock Beer Festival was a hard core disappointment!!! If you have never been there for this event you didn't miss anything except a load of irritation. I thought this would be a cool event because it was $25 a head & Import beer only which may keep out most of the local modular home dwelling Free Bird screamers. I arrived at the “Resort” and wrestled with urine-poor parking then headed to the entrance. The line was rather long and slow but I did get through and produced my 25 US dollars and was given a “5 ounce juice glass”, then I knew there was going to be a problem. I'm like WTF!! 25 bucks and I get a baby size beer glass? So, I proceeded to the Beer looking for 2 specific brews. After a couple minutes I eye-balled the Baltika stand!! I got in line with my trusty Junior Beer glass and pressed on. I presented the empty micro-vessel for my first beer and then it happened!! My tiny toddlers juice glass was only 1/3 filled!! To my shock and horror I noticed an etched graduated fill line on my glass indicating the “2 ounce” level!! Now can you imagine how much I wanted my 25 dollars back? Anyway, I tried to make the best of it hoping that the other beer lines weren't as long. As time passed the indoor event became more crowed and the lines grew longer and slower. The band (Fuzzy Bunny Slippers) was rocking away to a brain bashing line up of crappy cover songs like 99 red balloons with a male singer!! Now I'm not bagging on the band I'm sure the Resorts entertainment department restricted them to play all pre-1990 music. This event could have been OK if they didn't pack 500 people into such a small area with tiny 2 ounce servings forcing people to spend all their time in line. Oh one more thing... it may be a cool idea to have a good band play some original music. Maybe I'm too West Coast-ish and don't understand the East Coast love of pre-1990 music but I have had enough of 70's music. So, after muscling through the crowd for an hour or so with my Junior Juice glass with a 2 ounce limit I called it a day. Bottom line.... getting 5 (2) ounce servings of beer and waiting in line an hour to get it is NOT cool!
